Cricket: Gambhir launches college event
India batsman Gautam Gambhir revealed plans for an Asian Tri-Nation College Cricket Series.
MUMBAI:
India batsman Gautam Gambhir revealed plans for an Asian Tri-Nation College Cricket Series involving teams from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Indian leg of the championship will feature top colleges from Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Chandigarh competing in March and April. Four college teams from each city will play two knock-out matches and a city final. Winning teams representing the eight cities will then vie for a spot in the national final. “The reason Red Bull and I came up with this event is because college cricket isn’t taken too seriously,” said Gambhir. “We believe that conducting a South Asian competition will benefit the upcoming crop of cricketers by exposing them to international conditions early on.”
