Snooker: Asif humbled by Iranian opponent

Pakistan’s top-ranked cueist loses 4-0 in snooker event.

KARACHI: Pakistan top-seed Muhammad Asif faced a humiliating defeat at the hands of Iranian Saeed Aboo Yesani as the Seven-nation International Snooker Chmapionship commenced in Karachi yesterday.

Aboo Yesani won 4-0 with scores of 72-36, 91-9, 52-27, 57-17, including a break of 91 in the second frame.

Pakistan’s Sultan Muhammad also went down fighting 4-2 against Egyptian Muhammad Ibrahim with scores of 38-60, 76-30, 61-29, 38-60, 67-14, 49-18.

However, former Asia number two Mohammad Sajjad gave fans something to cheer about with a 4-2 win against India’s Muhammad Faisal Khan.  Sajjad, who hit a break of 103 in the fifth frame, won with scores of 28-71, 79-18, 64-3, 5-89, 103-20, 66-14.

Compatriot Abdul Sattar overpowered Yaser Ahmed Elsherbiny of Egypt 4-1.

Meanwhile, in a battle of local cueists, Naveed Perwani reigned supreme against Sharjeel Mehmood 4-0.

In other matches, UAE’s Mohammad Al Joaker downed Pakistan’s Sohail Shahzad 4-0, while Bahrain’s Habib Subah defeated Pakistan cueist Vishan Gir 4-1.
