ISLAMABAD:

Rapturous laughters followed by a heated discussion were witnessed as students from 15 colleges of twin cities showcased their oratory skills at a declamation competition. The two-day Annual Inter-College English Declamation Contest concluded at Government Postgraduate College for Women in Satellite Town on Saturday.

The topics for the contest were ‘Why are there no more Quaid-i-Azams’ for serious debate and ‘Networking or House Working “for the humorous debate.

All the participants exuberantly participated in the contest, especially the humorous speech, during which they agreed on networking being an alluring pastime compared to housekeeping.

“Who wants to wash dishes when you can chat with your friends on Facebook,” said one student.

However, the serious round had a much more intense discussion, with students criticising political leaders for lacking integrity.

The contest was won by Syeda Anum Aftab from Bilquis College of Education, while the second position was grabbed by Munaza Sadaf from the same college.

Azka Farooq from Islamabad Model College for Girls F-7/2 and Sana Tariq from Viqarun Nisa College Rawalpindi stood third in the contest, while the fourth prize was won by Mariam Tariq from Government Degree College, Dhok Mangtal.

Addressing the participants Aziz Ahmed Khan, the former rector of National University of Modern Languages, appreciated the students’ efforts and highlighted the reason behind absence of any leader with integrity, vision and spirit of sacrifice. He concluded his address by urging the youth to have faith in themselves, their teachers, parents and most importantly, in God.

In addition to that, a quiz competition on Pakistan Movement, life of Quaid-i-Azam and current affairs was also held.

The competition was won by Government College for Women Dhoke Rata and Islamabad Model College for Girls F-7/2 stood second. Government College for Women Khayaban-i-Sir Syed and Khadija Umar College Tench Bhata stood third and fourth respectively in the competition.
