KARACHI: Violence erupted in Sohrab Goth after the killing of a former area leader of the Awami National Party on Friday. The 32-year-old victim, Khairuddin Mehsud, was targeted in a drive-by shooting by two motorcyclists near his house in Hassan Noman Colony. The family said that Mehsud was killed shortly after he left home after having lunch. Residents gathered to protest on the main Super Highway near Al Asif Square and blocked traffic at this entry point to Karachi. They burnt tyres, pelted passing vehicles with stones and also set two vehicles on fire. The protesters were tackled with tear gas and baton charge. Half a dozen men were detained.

Gadap SSP Malik Altaf said that Mehsud was the former president of Hassan Noman Colony for the ANP and was currently associated with Ward 18.
