Protests in Abbotabad continue

ABBOTABAD: Protests in Abbotabad continue as the National Assembly approves the renaming of NWFP as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Leaders of all political parties in Abbotabad will hold a press conference today to announce a future strategy on the formation of a Hazara province. The press conference will also discuss the timeframe of the protest against renaming NWFP to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Earlier yesterday, a complete shutter down strike was observed in Abbotabad and other adjoining areas to protest the renaming of NWFP to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The call for the strike was by various political, religious and non-governmental organizations. People indigineous to the Hazara division claim that their identity has not been recognized in the name Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Citizens hailing from Havalian and Mansehra are also observing the strike.

Protesters gathered at different places in Abbottabad and chanted slogans against the name, while burning tyres not ready to accept Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at any cost.

kamran ahmad | 14 years ago | Reply our forfathers fight against congress on the basis of idealogy of pakistan under the leadership of quaid - azam mohammad ali jinnah and won the refrendum of 1946 for joining pakistan. Hazara has a long history being muslim leagur , actully hazara wall feels that renaming of NWFP as pukhtoon khawa is their idealogical defeat , this defeat was all due to elected representatives in assemblies on the ticket of muslim league -n. Mian nawaz sharif hurt the hazara wall who were lover of mian sahib, but now all hazarawall have the bad sentiments for nawaz sharif. Now our demand is only sooba hazara,we are pure and patriote pakistani.

Arshad | 14 years ago | Reply I condemned the brutal use of police at the protestors, in which nine people lost their lives. Chief Minister NWFP and DIG Hazara is directly responsible for this. They should be arrested immediately. HAZARA province is essential for Hazarawal. Don’t forget these (Pakhtoon) are the people who opposed PAKISTAN and even did not liked to buried in Pakistan. Right from the beginning, they are not sincere with Pakistan. NWFP is part of Pakistan only because of Hazarawal. I think our LOCAL Political leadership must realize that this is an only option to have a separate Hazara Province. It is a just demand and practically viable. People of Hazara cannot live these barbarians. They even do not have a sense how to handle peaceful demonstration. Other day has been the day of cruelty. ANP brought police from Charsadda and Mardan into Hazara over night and gave them shoot at sight orders. 100 people injured due to indiscriminate firing by "attock-par" police force. 10 Dead. The 10th class student wearing a tie shown on TV being dragged by police is being reported to be included in those martyred today.
