Tennis: Ferrer eases into 2nd round

BUENOS AIRES: Top-seed David Ferrer of Spain barely broke a sweat as he eased past Andres Molteni into the second round of the Copa Claro in Buenos Aires. Ferrer prevailed 6-1, 6-0 over his Argentine opponent. “I’m happy to have got past the first round,” said Ferrer. “I think Molteni was a little nervous.” Meanwhile, home favourite David Nalbandian secured his progress with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of American Wayne Odesnik. Earlier, second-seed Nicolas Almagro of Spain beat Italian Potito Starace 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, while third-seed Gilles Simon of France registered a 6-3, 7-5 win over Portugal’s Rui Machado.
