HARIPUR: The Haripur police claimed to have recovered 14 mortar shells on Tuesday. However no one was booked as the heavy ammunition was found abandoned on the bank of the river near Ghazi-Barotha Dam. The police said they were informed by locals that explosive material in a sack had been left near the river in Khamosh Colony, Ghazi-Barotha Dam. The police confirmed that there were 14 live Russian-made mortar shells. The police called the bomb disposal squad which had not arrived to defuse the shells till then. Sources believe that the ammunition was smuggled from Afghanistan as scrap, which the owner dumped at a deserted place to avoid a brush with the law.
