A petition was filed on Tuesday in the Lahore High Court challenging the appointment of Habibur Rehman as the Inspector General of Punjab Police (IGP).
Petitioner Chaudhry Muhammad Fakhir submitted that an LHC commission had declared the newly appointed IGP, the then CCPO, partially responsible for the attack on Sri Lankan Cricket team. He added that a departmental inquiry, conducted by senior police officers, had also declared him “irresponsible” and “negligent”.
The petitioner prayed that Rehman’s appointment be set aside and directions be issued to the government to appoint, on merit, an ‘honest and dutiful’ IGP.
