KARACHI: The pace duo of Mohammad Khalil and Bilawal Bhatti demolished Sindh’s batting line-up, sharing nine wickets between them on the third day, to help Punjab gain the upper hand in the Faysal Bank Pentangular Cup final underway at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Punjab, who posted a mammoth 496 in their first-innings courtesy Aamer Sajjad’s double ton, bundled out Sindh for 235 before reaching 30 for no loss in their second knock to gain an overall lead of 291. Sindh recovered through Fahad Iqbal and Faraz Ahmed as the pair put on 107 for the fifth wicket. But both were dismissed short of their half-centuries as Punjab applied pressure. Khalil picked up a five-for, while Bhatti finishing with four wickets.

“I’m gutted as we were playing well, but I made a wrong call and paid the price,” Fahad, who was dismissed for 44, told The Express Tribune. “Their bowlers bowled with lot of heart.”

Punjab could have enforced a follow-on but decided to set a target with captain Taufeeq Umar not out on 20, while Mohammad Yasin was unbeaten on four.

“I decided not to enforce the follow-on because the bowlers have given their all to bowl out Sindh,” said Taufeeq. “They were a bit tired so they needed time to rest.”

Without star players, Sindh were saved from total embarrassment. The bowling and batting seems ordinary at present. Final should have been a tough competition.
