Nine others wounded in attack claimed by the Baloch Republican Army.
QUETTA:
A remote-controlled blast targeted a security force convoy in Dera Bugti on Saturday, killing two men and wounding nine others.
Banned outfit Baloch Republican Army (BRA) claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to sources, an explosive device was planted in the Sangsela area of the Bugti Tribal Territory and was detonated when a vehicle of paramilitary troops passed by.
Two personnel, identified as Lutfullah and Mohammad Riaz, died on the spot, while nine others were injured. The vehicle was completely destroyed in the explosion.
“Two security personnel were killed and nine injured, some seriously,” an official confirmed. Security forces launched a manhunt in the area soon after the incident.
A heavy contingent of security forces rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. The deceased and injured were taken to a nearby state-run hospital.
BRA spokesperson Sarbaz Baloch told reporters from an undisclosed location that his organisation carried out the attack.
Separately, security personnel foiled an attempt to blow up a gas pipeline in Sui and arrested three suspects from the area.
According to an official, after receiving a tip-off, security forces recovered explosive materials attached to the gas pipeline in Sui. “Three suspects were arrested from the area for further interrogation,” he added.
