LAHORE:

Representatives and officials of Air League occupied an office of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), located on Allama Iqbal International Airport on Friday.

Sources said that the President of Air League Mehmood Bukhari, General Secretary Mukhtar Bharwana and others barged into the office of PIA and scuffled with the staff on duty. They seized control of the office and pushed out airline officers Ejaz Qadeer, Asghar Nawaz and Aslam Chishti.

Those who were subjected to the mistreatment later filed a written complaint with the higher authorities.  They also stressed immediate measures should be taken to regain control of the office.

The national carrier has been embroiled in major financial and operational crises, including allegations of widespread corruption.

It is suffering a daily loss of Rs70 million. Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar last month submitted a report to the Senate, stating that “PIA suffered Rs19 billion losses over the last 273 days.”
