The transfer of ownership to the national flag carrier is another step towards implementing the business plan of the “Vision 2020” and will help PIA save about $2 million monthly in rentals.
The agreement was signed between Managing Director (MD) PIA, Nadeem Khan Yousufzai and Director Asset Management Airbus, Patrice De Puymorin.
MD PIA stressed that the airline and the aircraft providers have a long relationship, which began with the induction of A300-B4 in early 80’s and was strengthened further by the purchase of A310 Aircraft in 1991.
PIA to improve fleet with 5 Boeing 777s
It was reported earlier in The Express Tribune that PIA will purchase five Boeing 777 aircraft from the Boeing Company of the United States.
The aircraft will be delivered by November 2015; with the first delivery scheduled in March of the same year.
MD PIA and Boeing Director International Sales J Miguel Santos signed the agreement in the presence of Minister for Defence Chaudhary Ahmad Mukhtar and Acting Ambassador of the US to Pakistan Richard Hoagland.

Why isn't the Pakistani National Assembly asking the US State Department to officially condemn the US - Baluchistan resolution currently in the US Congress and attach this and other purchases and supports to it pending that? Or maybe explore AirBus as a alternative as a protest...
All airlines in the world are dumping A 300 and A 310. these old technology... PIA should had bought Air bus 330 and Boeing 787......these two models safe 30 to 40 percent of fuel and take more luggage and passengers. PPP, ANP, PML-q , PML-n, MQM , JUI all are getting the kick backs for buying air bus310 flying coffins .
These aircraft are worthless to Airbus or to anyone else. They are 25+ years old technology coupled with poor aircraft maintenance record of PIA. Airbus would never be able to re-lease the aircraft again and they would have gone to the graveyard. So Airbus got a good deal and PIA\GOP employees good kickbacks. That's how good a deal this is. All one has to do is see the availability of relatively newer less utilized aircraft on the market right now and get better aircraft by returning the A310 back to Airbus than to keep pumping money into over abused aircraft. Of course, the MD and his staff know better than the market does!!!
what a joke... we cant even maintain what we have and trying to run faster it seems...
Good news that PIA is adding aircraft's to the fleet but fact of the matter remains the same, PIA has too many people running the operations. Unless workforce is brought under control, PIA will never will be profitable no matter how many aircraft's you add.
