Two unidentified men threw acid at a woman on Wednesday burning part of her face. She was taken to a hospital, where doctors treating her said that her condition was serious.
Police said her face, neck, arms and back were injured in the attack.
Doctors treating her said that though the injuries were severe, her life was not in danger. However, they said she might lose her eyesight. How her eyes respond to the treatment, they said, will only become clear later.
Her husband told The Express Tribune that he was at work when the incident took place. He said had been on a night shift for a few days and was informed by some neighbours. She was taken to Allied Hospital.
In a statement to the police, the woman said that two men had knocked at her door and told her that they had a message from her husband. She said when she let them in, they started beating her.
One of them also took out a bottle from his pocket and threw acid in her face. Therefore, she said she couldn’t see anything. She said the men fled immediately afterwards.
“Even then, I couldn’t think of anything, but my two kids in the room. I feared for their lives,” she said.
Her husband said that he worked at the power loom. He said neither he nor his wife had any enemies. He said both his wife and his mother worked as maids at the same house. He said they had never had as much as an argument with anyone.
Station House Officer Waheed Shahid said that nothing was missing from the house, so it was clearly not a robbery case.
He said the police had developed sketches based on the victim’s description of the men.
