The government’s prosecutor in the case, AG Haq, told The Express Tribune that the Supreme Court would decide the case on merit and his evidence was not much different from the documents presented before the court during earlier hearings of the case.
He said, “The court has asked me for assistance in the case because I was a deputy attorney general when former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was indicted with contempt charges. And during this contempt case, I am serving as an attorney general.”
The Supreme Court in its last hearing of the case had asked AG Haq to file a document of all witnesses and affidavits by February 16.
The attorney general also said that prosecutors in many cases do not go against the government and that the court gauges the issues on merit under the light of chronology of the events and evidence.
Petition filed against AG in Supreme Court
A petition against AG Haq was filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday saying that being a subordinate of the prime minister, the attorney general will not say anything against him in the court.
The petitioner, a freelance journalist named Shahid Orakzai had maintained that the attorney general was appointed by the prime minister and thus he should not be assisting court in this case.
