TEHRAN: US filmmaker Sean Stone, son of Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone, converted to Islam on Tuesday in Iran, where he is making a documentary, he told AFP.

“The conversion to Islam is not abandoning Christianity or Judaism, which I was born with. It means I have accepted Mohammad (PBUH) and other prophets,” he said in a brief telephone call from the central Iranian city of Isfahan, where he underwent the ceremony.

Sean Stone’s famous father is Jewish, while his mother is Christian.

The 27-year-old filmmaker did not say why he converted.

According to Iran’s Fars news agency, Sean Stone had become a Shiite and had chosen to be known by the Muslim first name Ali.

Sean/Ali Stone has acted in minor roles in several of his father’s films, and has directed a handful of documentaries.

Having child or getting married is also a personal issue but it is news as long as it involves a famous personality.

I am eager to see how various sectarian Pakistani Sunni jamaats will react to this news. Personally I do not find this act very different from that of Hanoi Jane during Vietnam war. She has been apologizing for her action since then!

Wow…the other posters are so full of negativity. I think its good news even though I’m not a shia or anything…its good that someone found the truth in the Quran and it IS news because its a high profile personality just like Liam Neeson who recently made a similar announcement. Congrats Ali.

Conversion is such a strange concept. What prevents one from holding the beliefs of a faith without having to repudiate/ disavow those of the other? Especially in the case of Judaism and Islam, which have so much in common.

I am a Sunni muslim but i welcome brother Sean Ali Stone to the ultimate truth(Islam).Islam spreding so fast in the west and their celebs reverting to it despite the fact that not only the western media but hypocrites and deviants within the muslim ummah spew so much propaganda against is a sign that truth cannot be suppressed with demonization disinformation and propaganda. This also something from which secluar western slaves in our country should leran from.

Waqas hw r u to decide what’s peceful and what’s not If Islam is truth Quran is revelation and Allah is only God than you have accept its teachings weather you like it or not you are suppose to judge religion on the basis of its scripture and Concept of God and beliefs not on the basis of its teachings. For hypocrites like who are muslim by birth and still reject the truth these are the signs of Allah almighty. No matter how much propaganda people like you spread against deen a Haq ultimately it will prevail as a way of life in the haul world as Allah has promised in the Holy Quran.

Islam is not the monopoly of any nation or country. Those who are blessed by God, are indeed fortunate to surrender to Islam and Islamic teachings, irrespective of the place they live in. STone is one of them. He has no oblligation to any nation but to Mohammad S A and his followers such as HAZRAT ALI.

    Feb 19, 2012 - 11:28AM

Islam means surrender. and Sean Ali Stone has been forturnate to be blessed by allah and mohamad and al mohommad. Islam does not beg man but man should always beg God to put him on serat-d mostagim. and Islam shows the ,ultimate path for prosperity of human beings.
