Sincere neighbour: Iran offers 1,000MW on fast-track basis

Iranian Consul General emphasises need to boost trade between Pakistan, Iran from current $1.5 billion to $5 billion.

QUETTA: The Iranian Consul General in Quetta Seyed Hassan Yahyavi has said that Iran is ready to inject 1000 megawatts of electricity to Pakistan’s national grid through Taftan on demand. He was addressing a press conference at the Iranian consulate in Quetta. He emphasised the need to boost trade between Pakistan and Iran from the current $1.5 billion to $5 billion. He said that Iran had completed its part of the pipeline meant to supply gas to India and Pakistan and was ready to start supplying gas as soon as both countries decided if they want the project to become operational. The envoy said that Iran was ready to invest in industry and infrastructure in Balochistan and measures were being taken to strengthen bilateral relations between Iran and Pakistan.
