Pakistan taking serious steps against terrorism: FM Qureshi

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan is taking serious steps against terrorism.

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan is taking serious steps against terrorism.

Qureshi made these comments in a meeting with the British High Commissioner who was summoned to the Foreign Office over David Cameron's comments about Pakistan exporting terrorism.

An official protest letter by the Foreign Office also urged the British leadership to avoid giving such statements. It noted that Pakistan's sacrifices are more than any other country in the world.

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari's trip to the UK will go ahead as planned.

Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira has said the president will seek to correct the British prime minister’s “misperception” when they meet.

However, a statement issued from Downing Street has said that Cameron will not apologise for his comments.

Pakistan summons British envoy over PM remarks

The Pakistani government on Monday summoned Britain's high commissioner to Islamabad over remarks made by the British prime minister on the export of terror that sparked a diplomatic row, officials said.

Top envoy Adam Thomson went into talks with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi at around 11:30 am (0630 GMT). "The British high commissioner was summoned to foreign office today. He is in a meeting with the foreign minister," a Pakistani foreign ministry official told AFP, saying details will be later issued in a statement.

"We can confirm the high commissioner is meeting foreign minister Qureshi," said a spokesman for the high commission. "It's a meeting at the request of the foreign minister to discuss the prime minister's remarks," the spokesman told AFP.

During a visit to Pakistan's arch rival India last week, Prime Minister David Cameron became mired in a diplomatic row with Islamabad over comments about the "export of terror" from Pakistan.

Dajjal | 13 years ago | Reply Well, i was defending Pakistan by treating some branches of its Govt with the contempt they deserve. Some parts of my previous comment about the Judiciary was edited by the moderators... even though i don't recall saying anything untrue.... which might explain any ambiguity in my comments... As far as you last comment goes, i don't remember either defending the terrorist organizations, the Govt's support for them, or the use of religion to justify violence... therefore i have nothing to say... However, i wish you all the best and hope you find someone who will argue unnecessarily with you on that subject. Cheers

One more thing I noticed constantly in all the discussions either it is at the Government level or ordinary citizens level, people never open their mouth against the individual conspirators like Hafiz Saeed. You have need said that he should be prosecuted :). But believe me, this is going to happen in future if you don't take corrective measures. Your institutions we terming the Taliban as strategic assets to play proxy wars against your neighbors and your military and ISI leadership has hailed them as Patriotic Citizens not too far ago but couple of years back. Now they become Terrorists and that too, you were saying that they were under the control of foreign Agencies. How shame? Believe me. Today JuD may not show their guns at you but surely one day they will do the same as done by Taliban. That time you will surely regret and start saying they are foreign paid agents. Please don't use Religion to support such stupid acts against Humanism. After all Assalamu Alaikum means 'May Peace and Prosperity Prevail among us with the blessings of Allah'. But is it how you people are living?. Sorry to say this, I could see 'There is no value for human life inside Pakistan forget about peace and prosperity'. Any body pointing fingers at you, you would start saying Conspiracy against us by the foreign agencies.

Dajjal | 13 years ago | Reply Ms.Daubic Thank you for your reply. You will, however, be disappointed to know that the Pakistani judicial system doesn't work that way. It follows a policy of 'Innocent until suspected to be part of the opposition'. Also, Pakistan is a special democracy with zero tolerance for free speech, however, absurd speech is the constitutional right of each and every citizen as is believing goofy ideas and conspiracy theories.. as for all the finger pointing in your comment, again, the constitution of Pakistan only allows the citizens to point one finger at India.

Daubic | 13 years ago | Reply Mr.Dajjal, In case if your courts have to issue warrants, first they will have to issue arrest warrants against Hafiz Saeed and other Taliban leaders who are issuing threats to India and other countries. When these terrorists issue some non-sense statements, you say Pakistan is a Democratic Country where everyone have rights to talk, but when the same is done by others, you throw venom at them. Remember one thing, if one or two fellows are pointing fingers at Pakistan, it could be the problem of the pointing persons. If the whole world is pointing fingers at Pakistan, certainly something should be wrong with you guys rather than the pointing fingers. Remember, its not just Cameron but every other leaders of US, UK, Afghanistan, India, and other European countries.

shazia ahmad | 13 years ago | Reply i know pakistan have been played an important role against terror.. and is playing supportive role to overcome the revailing situation of the country.all over the pakistan terrorist we may call extremists must be punished those who involve in any case.. and all jihadi groups enter to pak army.. kp situation of terror is worst hopefully pak army would overcome this situation.. karachi target killing.. balasts in pakistan.. should come to an end..
