RAWALPINDI:

A court bailiff on Monday recovered a man from the illegal custody of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) after the latter could not produce legal documents about the detention.

Shamsul Arifain, the bailiff, recovered Muhammad Zeeshan from the police station of FIA situated at Iqbal Town and directed the in-charge of the FIA Rawalpindi to appear before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Chaudhry Tariq Javaid on Tuesday.

Advocate Raja Muhammad Nazeer, who had filed the habeas corpus petition on behalf of Zeeshan’s mother, told The Express Tribune that it was on Saturday that FIA took away Zeeshan from his house in Amarpura.

The lawyer said that when the bailiff reached the FIA station he found Zeeshan there and the agency officials could not produce any FIR or entry about his arrest.

Narrating the whole episode, the lawyer said a criminal case against Zeeshan had been registered in Dubai involving some business dealings.

He said the family of Zeeshan was informed that he was being taken into custody following issuance of arrest warrants by Interpol. “However, FIA could not produce any warrants of arrest or any FIR,” he added.
