LAHORE: With respect to the report ‘Delay in raising alarm blamed for fire disaster’ in The Express Tribune on February 12, 2012, Salman Mazhar, Wateen’s Manager Corporate & PR has issued the following statement: “I was present at the time that the fire alarm went off and we immediately contacted the fire department and rescue services. Our administration, security staff and employees meanwhile tried to extinguish the fire but it spread too quickly and could not be contained. Our immediate concern was to ensure that there was no loss of life and we managed to vacate everyone as per emergency protocols, saving precious lives.”
