AJK Supreme Judicial Council reserves verdict

LAHORE:

The Supreme Judicial Council of Azad Kashmir has reserved its verdict on a reference against suspended Chief Justice Riaz Akhtar Chaudhry.


The council, headed by acting chief justice of AJK Supreme Court Manzoor Hussain Gilani, conducted a one-sided hearing owing to the absence of the suspended chief justice.


Police have surrounded the Supreme Court Registry Branch in Mirpur and all entry and exit points of the building have been blocked.


Meanhwile, Azad Kashmir High Court Chief Justice Mustafa Mughal has dismissed two judges: Justice Rafiullah Sultani and Justice Younis Tahir.


The acting chief justice has approved the dismissal of the judges from service.


Sources say they have been sacked for sending a writ against the appointment of acting chief Justice Manzoor Hussain Gillani to the Supreme Court without conducting hearings.
