Ghulam Rasool Shah, a prominent activist of banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), has been released after completing his detention period, The Express Tribune has learnt.
The Punjab government had earlier extended the detention period of Shah, who is also a close aide of LeJ’s operational chief Malik Ishaq, for a further 60 days, to preempt sectarian strife, under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO).
Shah, who is also a co-accused in various terrorism cases registered against Ishaq, was earlier confined in the jail of his hometown Bahawalnagar, since September, 2011 for 30 days under the MPO.
On December 16, 2011, the Lahore High Court review board ordered an extension of the detention of banned outfit leaders.
The DPOs of Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalnagar produced Ishaq from Rahim Yar Khan Jail and Shah from Bahawalnagar jail before the board.
Both DPOs requested that their sentences be extended as their release could cause a serious law and order situation.

Let us release all these terrorists and put the elected govt in the jails. While at it also give immunity and pardon to Qadri as well.
That is the natural outcome of our flawed judicial system. Very unfortunate. All these known outlaws are out to freely come back and strike at will again and again, and there is nothing one can do to curb lawlessness and terrorism.
