Two Iranian traditional music groups enthralled students at the Aabpara Community Centre on Friday with their rendition of religious and Sufi poetry, Iqbal’s poetry, Hamd and Naat, said a press release. Over 1,000 students from the educational institutions of the Federal Directorate of Education attended the performances of the two visiting groups from Iran. The groups also sang Iqbal’s poetry in Urdu and Persian. Senator and former ambassador Akram Zaki, the chief guest, said the Iranians have drawn inspiration from Muhammad Iqbal’s views on life and civilisation. Zaki said, “We have put Iqbal’s philosophy on the backburner but Iran keeps deriving the essence from Iqbal’s verses and philosophical objectivity.”
