HARIPUR: Five of family including two women were seriously injured in a gas explosion in village Mohra Ali Khan on Thursday morning. The cause of the accident was gas leakage, according to one of the victims. Police said Khan Afsar’s family was asleep in a room, also used as a kitchen, when one of the women tried to light the gas stove to warm water for ablution. But the room caught fire as gas was reportedly leaking from a plastic pipe. Neighbours rushed to the scene and took the family to the DHQ hospital Haripur which referred them to Ayub Medical Complex Abbottabad. The injured were identified as Hasan Din, his son Khan Afsar, his wife Rifaat Bibi, their son Asad Khan and daughter Kainat. Despite the fact that injuries and deaths due to gas leakage are frequently reported in the media every winter, people fail to check pipes and conduits for leakage. Another precaution advertised in print and electronic media that people often neglect to follow is to switch off gas appliances before going to sleep.
