Hockey: PIA crash to a 4-2 loss against WAPDA

Both seal semi-final berths with Army, SSGC joining them.

Wapda beat leaders PIA 4-2 to take over top spot in the National Hockey Championship and also seal a semi-final berth where they will take on SSGC tomorrow.


PIA, who dominated the table for the best part of the league were easily second-best in the match despite opening the scoring through Mohammad Irfan in the 25th minute. Wapda equalised through Salman Hussain in the 35th minute before three more goals in the second half put the result beyond doubt.

Meanwhile, NBP thrashed HBL 7-2 but failed to reach the last-four after finishing fifth with 16 points. In other matches, Navy downed PAF 2-0 while Port Qasim beat PHF 4-1.

Wapda’s win took them to 22 points while PIA, who will meet Army in the semi-final, sit two points behind them.
