Working class: AIOU initiates programmes ‘to enhance skills’
AIOU was approaching people of the remote rural areas to equip them with modern knowledge.

The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has initiated several programmes based on socio-economic studies at regional campuses, AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Nazir Ahmad Sangi announced on Tuesday. Dr Sangi said these programmes will enhance the skills and abilities of the working class.
The vice chancellor was addressing a media conference at the DG Khan campus. He said that AIOU had commenced training on wood works in Chinot. He said that AIOU was approaching people of the remote rural areas to equip them with modern knowledge.
Dr Sangi said that the aim behind socio-economic based learning was to promote better export quality goods. He said that an information technology laboratory had also been established at the DG Khan campus. A well established regional centre has also been established in Umer Kot in the Sindh province, he added.
Towards the end of the conference, Dr Sangi asked the Punjab government to donate land for the establishment of a hostel at the regional campus.
