This decision was taken after complaints surfaced that the Central Registration Office, a sub-office of the FBR, was taking months to register tax payers.
A senior official of the Board commented that an investigation has been launched to determine why the process was taking so long.
He said that the preliminary results of the investigation showed that incomplete applications and requests submitted by tax payers and tax lawyers is the main cause of delay.
However, he added that the issue was being taken seriously and steps will be taken to improve the registration process to make it more efficient.
Sources added that to expedite the tax registration process, a new turbo tax assistance system has been developed and will soon be introduced.
