HYDERABAD:

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has decided to set up an emergency centre and an early warning system in Hyderabad to help with disaster management.

A delegation from the agency, led by Takashi Onoma, met the additional commissioner Aijazul Hassan on Friday. The delegation said they will also train the personnel of the district administration in disaster management.

The agency has yet to confirm the district administration’s request for provision of excavators, cranes, stand-by generators, boats, and vehicles which are able to move in flooded areas. “We require heavy machinery to give an outlet to floodwater and for rescuing people,” said Hassan.
