Export processing zone: Minister inaugurates phase III
$550 million worth of goods were exported in 2010-2011; export targets for next year have been set at $700 million

The Senior Federal Minister for Industry Chaudhry Pervez Elahi lauded the performance of EPZA Chairman Tariq Hasan as instrumental in surpassing annual export targets. He was addressing a press conference after the inauguration of Phase III of the Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) at the authority’s headquarters. $550 million worth of goods were exported in 2010-2011 while the export targets for next year have been set at $700 million, he said. He also stressed the need for consensus among all religious and political parties on economic policy in order that the domestic economic conditions could be improved .The minister regularized 235 contractual employees of the EPZA on the occasion and promised all employees healthcare and educational benefits from the organization.
