ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Friday apprised the Senate that the murder of wife and daughter of Balochistan MPA Mir Bakhtiar Domki was a conspiracy against the country.

Replying to various points of order, Malik said it was not an ordinary incident and the conspirators would not be spared.

“Whenever we head towards positive development in Balochistan such things start happening,” he said and added that it was an attempt to disrupt peace in the province.

Malik said the government was taking the matter seriously and on the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari, a high-level committee was set up under the supervision of Additional Inspector General of Police, comprising intelligence and security agencies officials to probe the incident.

He said that it was decided that four public representatives, including two MPAs each from Sindh and Balochistan would be included in the committee.

Fake medicines

Regarding deaths in Punjab due to spurious medicines, the minister said that he had ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to investigate the matter.

Malik said that three accused were also arrested, who were later set free on the Supreme Court directives. The matter was sub-judice, he added.

He said that investigations were in progress and the names of the accused were placed on the Exit Control List.

The minister said that such issues could be controlled by setting up Drug Regulatory Authority. Earlier, Punjab had opposed to set up the authority, he added.

He said that both Punjab and federal governments were jointly working to thoroughly probe the issue.
