The incident took place around 2am in the Kalaa-e-Saeedan area, where a girls primary school was blown up.
“Four rooms and the veranda were totally destroyed," said a police official, explaining that around 8-10 kgs of explosives were used in the bomb which seemed to be manufactured locally.
The area where the school was blown up is populated by the Shia community. In an earlier incident, the police diffused two bombs weighing almost 43kg in another school opposite this girls school.
The Dera Ismail Khan area has a history of sectarian violence and has also been in the limelight for terrorist attacks since the start of this year.
Last week, officials said that a militant attack on a police official, after which the terrorists took refuge in a private college, was also sectarian.

@Adnan: I am of the origin, but am UK citizen and Taxpayer too, who is simply baffled as to why regularly we pay to build schools in Pakistan, that has life of less than 3 years on average ! On such projects, what is it, do you really want to keep the girls without education?? Do take note of number of females in the country and also the economic implications of such mind frame, as Pakistan is not Saudi Arabia!!!! In Normal world this is classed as laying Foundation for improvements and flourishing the local people, however in Pakistan there is Confusion as to what they really want or need to improve as society !!!! I hope you get rid of this Indian Phobia, as its bad for your health, as to the reason the Indians are concerned is very simple ! Who in their right mind would want an Neighbour as unstable as you?
@Aarvey,india: I just fail to understand why Indians are so interested in Pakistani politics. Please explain.
Militants are illiterate people and do not educate their daughters therefore they also want that other girls so also not get the education.
What Pakistan needs is educated girls so that tomorrow they should become educated mothers.
Those folks who keep shouting about the need for an Islamic state should take a close look at this. It represents how things will be if they get their way.
......and still we do nothing about the Madrassas and their sponsors.
I wonder whether the people who are pro Taliban really want someone who is afraid of educating girls running their country? Blowing up schools is an ignorant and cowardly act.
Why do these guys always blow up girls schools. Can't they use their energy, explosives and time to do some road construction, or community rebuilding !
Trying very hard to understand their mind set and all I can see is their hatred against other communities and women. What is the purpose?
