Tennis: Melzer, Haase charge ahead

World number 14 Jurgen Melzer cruised into the third round of the Zagreb Indoors tournament with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Andreas Seppi in just 68 minutes. Melzer hit nine aces and won 70 per cent of points on his first serve. Top-seed Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia was sent packing by German Michael Berrer, who won 6-4, 6-4. The other second-round match saw Robin Haase of the Netherlands defeat Germany’s Matthias Bachinger 7-6, 3-6, 6-3. Croatian Ivan Dodig toppled Turkey’s Marsel Ilhan 7-6, 7-5 in a gruelling fourth-round contest.
