QUETTA: All private television channel transmissions, mainly news channels, were suspended in Quetta and Baloch-dominated areas of the province on Wednesday.

The Baloch Student Organisation (BSO-Moyhudin) had held a news conference earlier and informed the media about the blackout measure in order to protest the TV channels’ alleged apathy towards Balochistan’s issues.

The transmissions were suspended in Quetta, Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar, Naushki and other districts. BSO demanded that national media and news channels give a just coverage to Balochistan. Talking to The Express Tribune, the Quetta-based president of the Cable Operators Association Babrak Khan said they suspended transmission because there is no life security.

“I do not know how long the protest will last but one thing is clear –we will not restore transmission until security is provided by the police,” he added.
