LAHORE: An election tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Monday disposed of a petition that sought disqualification of Defence Minister Ahmad Mukhtar filed by PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain. Hussain’s counsel informed the tribunal that his client wanted to withdraw the petition because the PML-Q had now joined the coalition, after which Justice Ijazul Ahsan disposed of it. The PML-Q president had lost the National Assembly election from NA-105, Gujrat against Mukhtar. He had later filed the petition requesting that Mukhtar be disqualified on the basis of irregularities during polling. He submitted that Mukhtar had not paid property tax and should be disqualified for being a defaulter.
