LAHORE: Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Aurangzeb on Monday dismissed pre-arrest bail petitions upon their withdrawal after the police recommended the cancellation of cases against Zahid Bashir, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society chairman and other officials. On Monday, counsel for Zahid Bashir and five other respondents in a separate case Javed Iqbal, Muhammad Nawaz, Sheikh Muhammad Ijaz, Shehzad Qauser and Syed Wasi Altaf Shah withdrew the petitions after the police informed the court that an inquiry into the cases had revealed that they were false. The first case was registered by Nausheen Naeem, who alleged that Zahid Bashir had misbehaved with her and threatened her with dire consequences if she did not record a statement incriminating a former Pakistan Red Crescent Society chairman. The second case was registered by Muhammad Saleem, a Pakistan Red Crescent Society secretary, who alleged that five other respondents had stolen important files from the record room of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society.
