Kidnapping & murder: 7-year-old abducted, ‘raped’, murdered by neighbours

Police say accused admit to killing girl after her parents failed to pay ransom.

Jhang City police have arrested two accused on charges of kidnapping, raping and killing a minor girl due to non-payment of ransom nearly two months ago. According to police officials, Basti Shehniwali resident, Asiya, 7, was allegedly abducted by her neighbor Salman along with his accomplice Abid Husain on December 7, 2011.



The accused took the girl to a room in the locality and allegedly slit her throat when her parents refused the ransom payment on the phone.  Asiya’s parents have reported the incident to the Jhang City police station and police officials have registered a case and launched an investigation for the recovery of the victim’s body. Jhang District Police Officer (DPO) took strict notice of this incident and directed Inspector Atif to nab the culprits as soon as possible. The inspector along with his team traced out the whereabouts of the accused and caught two suspects from Multan.  During a preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to the offense and also pointed the location where they had buried the body. Police officials said that the body had been sent to the hospital for an autopsy and that doctors suspected Asiya may also have been sexually assaulted. Police officials are waiting for medical results to confirm the charges.
