Hashmi criticised the PML-N for reportedly negotiating with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) over Senate seats, saying the party was making a deal with a corrupt and incompetent government.
Hashmi was making his first appearance in Lahore since joining the PTI in Karachi on December 25. He set out for Lahore by road in the morning and was welcomed at Thokar Niaz Baig at 3pm by the PTI’s youth wing, traders wing, labour wing and women’s wing. It took him another six hours to cover the 15 kilometres form Thokar Niaz Baig to Data Darbar, as he was cheered on and mobbed at various welcome camps.
PTI Lahore President Mian Mehmoodur Rashid led the chorus of cheering supporters and announced that Hashmi would stand in the next general elections from Lahore. The supporters cheered when he predicted that Hashmi would win his seat with a margin of over 100,000 votes.
Addressing the crowd in front of Data Darbar, Hashmi slammed his former party. He said that while the country was suffering from unemployment, corruption and lawlessness – thanks to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari – the PML-N was negotiating with them over the distribution of Senate seats.
He said Zardari and Gilani were “the biggest thieves” and they did not respect the judiciary. “Sadly, despite knowing all this, the PML-N’s leadership is about to strike a deal over Senate seats,” he said.
He said he had been loyal to the PML-N for a long time, but was forced to quit when the party failed to deliver on its promises of good governance and poverty alleviation and instead decided to join hands with the PPP.
Hashmi said that even if all the Muslim League factions and the PPP united for the next elections, they would be swept away by the PTI ‘tsunami’. He said that he had always served Lahore. “When the holders of Takht-i-Lahore [Throne of Lahore] fled the country, I stayed to preserve the party’s vote bank. For this, I was put behind bars,” he said.
Hashmi said that he had never flattered his leaders, but always put forth his views. He said that he used to think he alone was a rebel, but seeing the turnout, it seemed the entire city was rebelling against the PML-N.
The PTI leader also criticised US drone attacks, the imprisonment of Pakistani scientist Aafia Siddiqui in the United States and rich politicians. He said if one listed the 10 biggest politicians in Pakistan, one would note that all of them had become richer in recent years. “Imran Khan is just a simple politician, he does not own any textile mills,” he said.
The route of the convoy was decorated with banners and posters of Imran Khan and Hashmi. They bore slogans like ‘Nawaz Sharif al wida, al wida, Baghi aa raha hay’ (Farewell Nawaz Sharif, The Rebel is coming).

@Shariq: We have former teachers like Manmohan Singh and Mahmood Ahmedinejad as our neighbours. Lets have a sportsman in Pakistan. It is passion for change and serve that brought teachers in to politics in India and Iran. Jahangir Khan is welcome if he wants to enter politics. Great respect for him.
@Colonel:
Glad you backtracked from your ZERO and now are at 2. What backtracking party do you support?
@Shariq: So in your eyes he has failed already without even being tested. I frankly don't care who you vote for, I only care that you know what you are getting yourself into. Our so called tested politicians have failed us miserably. And hate the dictators all you want but the cold hard fact is that the country has been much more prosperous under dictators than in any civilian government. I like Imran because he makes sense to me, he talks about the things that need to be done in order for Pakistan to survive. I don't know if you realize how close Pakistan is to utterly collapsing and here we are trying to find out who is tested and who isn't. Imran may not have political experience but he is a leader that will not bow to anyone and that is something you have to appreciate not bash. And try again with that example, because there are only two CEOs that will always run the company and both are cancers to it. How ridiculous is that??
Also please stop getting so emotional over this nobody is calling you "mulk ka ghaddar," I know the victim card is in the playbook of the PML and PPP supporters. PTI supporters only defend Imran and if anything it is the PTI that has been victimized for the last 15 years.
@super pak: nowhere have i mentioned I have anything against Imran Khan. Its the emotional, illogical PTI supporters who will accept anything that Imran Khan says, that I have a problem with.
Having said that, I will not vote for Imran Khan not because I have a personal vendetta against him, but because he has absolutely no track record of proving himself to be a leader in a political setting in any capacity. He is an untested commodity. Am i willing to risk voting for a guy who has no experience as a minister even? No sir, I will not. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto before becoming Prime Minster was a foreign minister, an information minister, commerce minister, represented Pakistan at the UN and hence proved himself to be worthy of a Prime Ministerial position. Can anyone list me Imran Khan's credentials in a political setting other than being made to believe by the PTI supporters that he has built a cancer hospital and won a world cup for us which should be reason enough for people to vote for him?
It's like a company having had terrible, corrupt CEO's decide to employ a fresh graduate, 25 years of age, as its CEO saying he has had 4.0 GPA in university and led his university to 1st position in a business competition, hence he is able enough to lead our company. How ridiculous does that sound??? That is what the IK supporters are doing!
Anyways, I'm not a fan of online debates. People have their own opinions. I have mine. I have my own vote and I should not be labelled as 'mulk ka ghaddaar' as I have been by PTI supporters for the simple reason that I do not support IK.
@usman...no it didnt. The :P emoticon after Jahangir Khan should tell you how ridiculous the whole scenario is when PTI supporters give such absurd logic about choosing Imran Khan because of the mentioned reason. The Megan Fox line just reinforces the stupidity.
I can expect this question directed to me now as well, "Ok, so not Imran Khan. Who will you vote for? PPP or PMLN again? They've been given chances time and time again" i'm sick of this question. It's as if Pakistan is America and has only two parties. If you dont want to vote for PPP or PMLN, then dont, Go vote for MQM, JUI-F, ST, ANP, etc. And no, these parties have not been given chances time and time again at the federal level. In fact they havent even had 1 term at the federal level.
PTI supporters should give solid logical arguments about why one should support IK. Not some stupid reasons like he's a world cup winner and he talks truth. Hell even I talk truth. Please vote for me too. :P
PTI can u please also say something about PPP it seems the deal has been done between PTI and PPP not PML-N.
@Colonel. I'd love to know what party would you vote for and on what grounds?
@ Shariq. You just ruined your argument with the last sentence.
IK is in politics for 15 years, Javed Hashmi was with PML N for 14 years 9 months in this period, only he decided to join PTI after observing massive crowd in Lahore, such are our opportunist politicians....... Baghi, Tsunami etc etc all these slogans just show how emotional we think and how deprived we are from common sense.
javed hashmi a true pakitani leader
Javed Hashmi & Shah Mehmood Qureshi are good addition into PTI at South Punjab...!
Lets get Jahangir Khan into politics and vote for him. After all, he's won Pakistan 10 British Opens and 6 World Open titles, Remained unbeaten for 555 matches when people said he cannot even run properly, how will he play squash? He has been the World Squash Federation President, unanimously elected for a second term as well. I mean if people give reasons like Imran Khan has won the world cup for pakistan and built Shaukat Khanum so he can run a country, why cant Jahangir Khan do the same? In fact Jahangir Khan has more experience. He has already headed a world institution. All those in favor for Jahangir Khan, lets start a movement for Jahangir Khan! :P or we can have Megan Fox too as President.
@Imran: They Driving on right side. see carefully after putting some weather in your eyes. People like you sleep on election day then cry and criticize 5 years.
PTI is an obvious option for voters as PMLN failed to deliver.

@Colonel: Out of 272 general seats in NA of Pakistan, 145 come from Punjab, 2 from Federal Capital, 35 from KPK, 12 from FATA which when added make 71% which is more than 2/3 of the seats. So theoretically a party still stands a chance to grab 2/3 of NA seats without winning a single seat in Sindh and Baluchistan.
Great leader. Right person to be with IK. Wake up Pakistanis. Beware of these internet warriors that were born all of sudden to support PML-N and criticize PTI.
No to PML; No to PPP --- Yes to PTI.
Good to see people like Javed Hashimi for change. He was a strong opposition to a dictator and he has proved himself through tireless service. We will support him tooth and nail. I am sure he can render better services in PTI. Down to status quo parties that want to keep poor backward. No more to feudal system as well as family business.
Its NOT their love for PTI.... Its their hate for all other mainstream political parties, which is gonna help Imran Khan win those seats. Yesss!!!!... am talking about the whole nation, here
They will win a 2\3rd of elections. Right now they don't have any representation because they boy-cotted the last elections and are at their peak right before these elections. They will sweep the elections, you guys should realize that by now. PTI has so many key players PML-N clearly does not have. What sort of a team does nawaz have? Nothing. Thought so.
@colonel, yes we dare to dream
@NA: shah mehmood belongs frm upper sindh? check ur facts right mate
Long Live PTI!
They said IK is good cricketer and can't survive in Pak politics but he stood firmly at his feet for 15 years. They said IK is yahoodi lobby but he opposed Iraq's oil war and military operations for war OF terror at that time when no other so called leader dared to merely say any thing against their bosses in US. He led the rallies against extra judicial barbaric drone killings.
And then they said IK is Taliban khan but he openly denounced the murder of salman taseer when other so called liberal parties shut their mouth in fear of loosing right wing votes. He was the one who stood by Hindus of sindh and chritiansof Gojra.
And then they told us that PTI is tanga and internet party and made fun of us as mummy daddy inqilab, we showed them Lahore and Karachi jalsas.
They said he has no vision and opposed his stance in favour of talks and against military operations for years during 2004, 2005 , 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 and 2011 and today even USA is in talks with Taliban. They declared him short sighted when PTI boycotted elections and held demonstration against zardari's presidency. Also they declared him anti- democracy when he demanded mid term election but today every major opposition party agrees on early elections demand and unusefull existense of NRO government of 2008 elections. And now they are telling us that we can't win and we are pro establishment and we have old face and you know what, I feel pity for these bigots having their heads buried in sand. Guys if you are satisfied with your condition then keep supporting the existing corrupt lot who let me down every time. At least I'll I am not going to buy their bigotry once again.
Quran says that rulers are selected from among the nation. They are from among us. If we dont believe we can change them, how can you believe to bring change in the nation. And i believe IK with his vision, passion and endless will be bring change, even in these old politicians.
Tsunami only brings death and destruction , like what the mentors of PTI have been doing in East pakistan and Baluchistan
whoever is joining PTI will have to act upon party decisions. so no matter who is coming, will have to do what Imran Khan says. to win elections, you WILL need to do some compromises. This nation (on a larger scale) won't vote for new faces, keep that in mind! And we can't afford another tenure of corrupt govt. like that of PML or PPP at any cost. so I believe what PTI is doing is right. as long as Imran Khan is its leader, i have no issues with remaining party members.
Nawaz shareef qadam barhao.... , , , , Hum to Imran khan ke sath haiin. :D
Baghi Zindabad.
I think there is no need of answering the fake people like who camment against PTI..They are blind or mindless peiople and they dont love this country, if they do love, they should stand with PTI. Only hope is Imran Khan.
@Usama: Yes wake up Colonel! Don't you know that PTI has Piri landlords like the Qureshi, buiness tycoons like Tareen and duty free importing Legaris to bring the revolution to South Punjab!
All hail the revolution!
Pleasure to read the comments and support for IK. What a strange and double standards from the people here when they ask for 'new young candidates' and at the same time ask for 'any promonent candidates from PTI'.. Shame on them for such double standards. What they mean from prominent or big figures? What PTI is doing is absolutely right.PTI will come up with big margin if the elections will held transparent and clean. God bless u IK...
@colonel u love pti dont u......
@kashif...indeed Hashmi sb is corruption free..
Time has gone when Hashmi sahib used to win 3 seats from 3 different cities because of the support of PML-N workers. I'm anxiously waiting for the next general elections and I'm going to challenge Hashmi to win a seat from Lahore or Rawalpindi. Hashmi is good but not enough to win 3 seats with the support of PTI immature youth.
Great move!
A guy who is openly calling for the severing of South Punjab from the rest of Punjab on ethnic basis is standing for election in Lahore! Great move!!!!!
@Colonel: zero rep in South Punjab??? wake up dude
@Geo_IK: If Imran khan gives Party Tickets to 70% new and 100% clean politician's i will definitely Vote for a Change, but unfortunately PTI is comprised of only looters and corrupts
@NA: lol only 2 candidates from sindh and southern punjab?? *Sure PTI can win a 2/3 Majority :p
@ Everyone above --just shusssshhh!!!
Can't you see what the people of pakistan are going through- you guys should not comment on Pakistani news when you guys are living abroad. You guys should open your eyes and see what we are going through - power & gas load shedding among terrible law and order situation-no respect for court of law- education is zilch - investment in public & private sector is zilch. To top it all, your PML-N govt has just killed innocent people in Lahore by providing them with sub-standard medicines. For God's sake stop supporting current democratic setup- It's time to wake up, stand on ya two feet and think for the betterment of this country. Don't be selfish please, we've had enough of selfish people in this country. Please vote for a change, vote for Imran Khan, vote for PTI, we should all give PTI a fair chance and see what IK & Co can do for us.
Pakistan Zindabad. PTI & Imran zindabad.
south punjab 1. Baghi. 2 Qureshi 3 lagharis 4 tareen 5 hundreds nazims and lots
@General: It is a fact name a single prominent person of PTI from Sindh, Baluchistan, Southern Punjab
Baghi. A true baghi
@realist - yep they dream and are emotional because they are sick n tired of the corrupt political mafia and ther cronies who have robbed this country and brought it to its knees. Now if u think the current PPP and PLMN govts are delivering then u must live on a different planet or are part of the small elite who benefits from ther callous, inept and corrupt governance.
@Realist.: Agreed
Hashmi is a Brave person. He will win by huge margin.
what sweeping remarks mr. colonel. Did you have a dream about that ZERO presentation in Sindh, Baluchistan and Southern Punjab. You, and other people like you, are happy living in their 'fool's paradise' closing their eyes to a tangible reality 'PTI'.
I saw the JUI(F) Jalsa at Karachi the other day and it was too big than of that of PTI in either Lahore or Karachi. I think it is not Jalsas which count but the actual voting population who come to the polling station on the Election day...
Very enthusiastic reception by PTI for Javed Hashmi. At least he will have more respect in PTI than in PML-N and his advice will also be valued more.
Shah Mehmoud Querhsi and Javed Hashmi are from south punjab and upper sindh
@Colonel: They like Dreams, Jokes , emotionalism , rhetoric! Nothing concrete, & real! they have created a world in fantasy where they live!
Senate elections are part of democracy, NO? HATRED for government should not mean HATRED for Democratic Process!
ZERO representation in Sindh, Baluchistan, Southern Punjab and yet dreaming of winning 2/3rd majority , i feel pity on young emotional PTI supporter's
Tsunami seems to have fizzled out!
Driving on the wrong side of the road... doesn't seem like very law abiding political party!
