BAHAWALPUR: A police official was suspended for checking the motorbike documents of the son of a local MPA near Cheema Town, Bahawalpur on Friday. According to police officials, a squad was checking vehicle documents in the area when sub-inspector Shahid Bajwa asked a motorcyclist, Fawad to show his documents, which he refused. “He said that he was the son of local MPA Haji Zulfiqar Ali and began abusing the official. The matter escalated and soon Fawad’s friends arrived at the scene and beat up several police officials,” said an eyewitness. Fawad later called his father and MPA Ali allegedly asked senior police officials to suspend SI Bajwa.  Bajwa told The Express Tribune that he had received orders from the Resident Police Officer (RPO) Syed Abid Qadri and District Police Officer (DPO) Gohar Mushtaq Bhutta that all motorbikes without registration were supposed to be confiscated. He said he was only doing his job. Meanwhile, MPA Zulfiqar Ali said that Bajwa had threatened to shoot his son for standing next to an unregistered bike. “The bike did not belong to my son,” he said.  Bajwa has been suspended and an inquiry has been launched.
