With yet another series in the bag, captain Misbahul Haq acknowledged Pakistan’s excellent performance which saw them win the second Test against England by 72 runs in a thrilling finish and also take an assailable 2-0 lead after the 10-wicket Dubai thrashing.
Left-arm spinner Abdul Rehman rocked England – chasing a tricky 145-run target – with six for 62 which helped Pakistan bowl out their opponents for just 72. This was the world’s top-ranked Test team’s lowest total against Pakistan, worse than the 130 they made at The Oval in 1954 and again in Lahore in 1987.
Captain delighted with win
Misbah termed Pakistan’s win a huge achievement.
“It’s a big win against the top side in the world,” said Misbah, who has won eight of the 14 Tests since taking over as captain in October 2010. “I don’t have the words to describe this win which was made possible through a team effort.”
Misbah, who is yet to lose a Test series as captain, said his team has proved it can do well against the world’s best teams.
“There was a lot of pre-series talk that it’s our first big real test against a top team, so we had a very good opportunity to prove ourselves and the team has done well to prove this.”
Pakistan were able to at least set some sort of target by Azhar Ali (68) and Asad Shafiq (43) who put on an invaluable 88 runs for the fifth wicket before left-armer Monty Panesar finished them off for 214 with six for 62.
Misbah said his team believed they could beat England despite setting them what looked on the face of it a modest run chase.
“I think we had the realisation that we will have to fight whatever the target is and we also knew that the England batsmen were not scoring runs, they were struggling, especially when the ball was turning. We were hopeful that we could make a match out of it and in the end the bowlers proved that and bowled well to give us the win,” said Misbah of his bowlers which saw Saeed Ajmal reach the 100-wicket landmark with three for 22 in the second-innings.
He became the fastest to 100 wickets for Pakistan, beating Waqar Younis and Mohammad Asif who reached the target in their 20th Test.
Asked will his team look for a clean sweep against England, Misbah said, “We’ll try to do our best, we are up against the best team so they can come back in the series, but we will do what we can do, play well.”
Geoffrey Boycott
“I’ve seen some bad performances over the years but this is as bad as I’ve seen. England didn’t seem to have a clue where they were going to get a run. There was more chance of them getting an edge, or getting byes or leg byes.”
Ramiz Raja
“It’s a big deal indeed, folks. Beating the best side in Test cricket, bowling them out like toddlers. We can generously shower our team with love and praise after this outstanding accomplishment.”
Iqbal Qasim
“Pakistani spinners completely dazzled the English batting line-up. Rehman is in great form and Ajmal also bowled very well. Pakistan have shown that they can easily beat the world number one side.”
Zaka Ashraf
“Every team in the world will now sit up and take notice of Pakistan after the way they have performed. England are worried too. We will definitely reward the team monetarily when they return to the country.”

What kind of logic is this: Mohsin Khan who has just joined, and Pak happens to win a series, he should be permanent coach. And when Pak loses badly, he should be changed! Like what Ramiz Raja said*, main focus should be on Captain, because role of coach is that of a facilitator, and its better to have a professional coach than an informal setting. Acc to Imran Khan, cricket is the one of those fewest games in which the Key is captain; in sports like football, coaches play a more significant role. We should get out of this euphoria and leave the matter to PCB to decide what's better for team.
(http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/current/video_audio/551508.html)First of all. Well done all who worked as a team to merit such a feat. The question to ask "Is Rehman's taking six wickets for a mere 25 runs not a world record?" By the way, one should never forget " Winning in Cricket is by chance". It all depends in what form and shape is the team and more important how the weather, the ground etc. helps the players whether the batsmen or the bowlers, In this instance it appears that the Pakistani bowlers were helped greatly by the ground. or the pitch. One more thing to remember. "What goes up also goes down". The Australians are still up and have shown resilience to going down as yet.
its not magic ...the real man behind this is waqar younis
mohsin khan is just enjoying the fruits of hard work put in by waqar on this team...
We need both Misbah and Mohsin Khan as leaders. They are not corrupt and not politicians, rather highly educated and cultured leaders. Let their game and results do the talking. Pakistan should give them the honor they deserve.
When Pak won 1st test in this series, Eng media and commentators came with lame excuses like Saeed Ajmal wears full sleaves while bowling ( though Panesar was seen in this test doing the same), then they said that Ajaml's action is suspect and that it is not coachable to children etc etc....it was all like sour grapes....now the terminator has changed....may be Rehman will be criticized for some other lame excuse....may be for wearing an underwear which helped him to swivel his body while delivering the ball and hence it was helping him turn more.......:-) :-) My request to Eng media and people: learn to accept defeat.....If Eng was dishing out comprehensive defeats to others during past 18 months then their supporters and media should understand that this is only a game and reverse situation is also possibility....do not treat Cricket as your "property" it is for all playing countries and hence any good team on the day can win.....lastly Eng is still a good team...it is just the fact that Pak outplayed them....simple... well done team Pakistan.....and do not be complacent.....more victories will come your way if you continue playing solid cricket without letting match fixers getting near you, without any infights.....
Mubarak! Viva! Ole! Shabash! Our cricket team has proven beyond a shade of doubt that they can do well and win if there are honest and clean players in the team. Money is not everything. Politics is not everything. Mohsin Khan should remain as the coach to give sound advice and guidance to our team. He can understand the local temperament better. Local ingredients make the food better tasting. "If nihari is cooked with whiskey, then the flavor will be inebriation." Zaka Asharf is well advised to stick with the present coach. A Pakistani coach. Salams
Great to see the team performing as a unit. Mr. Zaka should let this winning combination continue.without any changes, Dave Whatmore isn't needed for now.
mistake : rehman took six for 25, not 62.
I think itz the magic of pakistani spinners that iz why the pakistani people r celebrating the win of pakistan.
It should be unassailable in the fourth line of this post rather than assailable.
No comments from our Indians friends yet?? surprised a little!
When there is merit in selection and players have enthusiasm to play for their country, then no matter who is the opponent they will get the positive result. Go Green :)
Where are all the Misbah haters, still eating those sour grapes??
we must not forget Waqar Younus to put this team on right track...
Well done boys as Inzi would say. Excellent team performance. WARNING to Ajmal,Hafeez and Rehman be careful you may be approached next to do spot fixing, that is one way of getting rid of tough opponents..
Good game boys! Keep it up.
well done Team Pakistan!!!!!!!
You have made all of us proud. Who can deserve more this win then us. We are rattled by all the worries and are jolted by all the horrors and shock but we are a blessed nation at the end of the day. You guys have certainly made us taller by the good work. Salute to the team management also. Long Live Pakistan.
All Pakistanis around the world are proud of you. If world class teams in all sports are encouraged to come to Pakistan then both Public-Private Business sector wins big. What will bring world class teams to Pakistan besides taking care of "security" issues? All it takes is have 1) Both Public-Private partnership effort 2) world class looking enhanced security game venues near good locations 3) Offer FREE 1st class lodging & food (NO food poisoning) to incoming teams 4) Do high class Provincial cultural shows for FREE for the foreign teams.
No reason to hire dave whatmore or any other foreign coach. mohsin khan and misbah have brought exemplary discipline and camaraderie to the pak dressing room and thats all that matters.
England landed in Spinland
Our cricket team's recent performance, is a result of strict team discipline, selection on merit alone and good team management. Well done and may you continue to dominate the cricketing world for a long time.
