The decision comes after a controversial episode of the morning show, where Khan was seen conducting a ‘raid’ on a public park in Karachi and questioning couples about whether their parents were aware of their whereabouts and going as far as asking them about their marital status.
Maya Khan was at first reluctant talking about the decision, but later confirmed that her show had indeed been cancelled.
The morning show host blamed “a vicious media campaign by rival groups” for the outcome of the fiasco. She said that those campaigning against her had wanted her to be removed and this is exactly what had happened.
Khan stressed on the fact that no one had highlighted the “good things” she had done on her show.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, she confirmed the authenticity of the letter (below) by senior Samaa TV management and her termination from the channel.
Independent sources from Samaa have also confirmed that Maya Khan has been fired along with the production team of the show.
The letter, which was reportedly sent out by the management, states that Khan had refused to apologise 'unconditionally'. It also adds that official termination notices will be sent to her on Monday morning.
The letter which says Maya Khan’s services from Samaa TV will be terminated has been circulating on social media websites and is reportedly signed by CEO Zafar Siddiqui.

You would appreciate that as an organisation with a functioning management team, we had to conduct certain legal requirements over the past week and internal review processes (which are operational in nature) before procedding further.
As a result of which I can inform you:
- We asked Maya to apologise unconditionally which she did not.
- The CEO asked her to do that on Friday which she refused.
As a result of which the following will be put in place on Monday, Jan 30th.
- Maya and her team will receive termination notices.
- Her show is being stopped from Monday morning.
Our deeds and actions taken since this episode occured are there for the record and hope this will settle issues as far as the station is concerned.
A lot has been written about the race for ratings. Well, we do absolve such behaviour irrespective of ratings that the show was getting.

I think the whole thing is just hoax. The first people to be blamed for putting on that show are the Producers & Directors. Why aren't they being questioned????? Maya must not have done it on her own with out their consent...... Secondly as Maya said it was a re-enactment she should have given a statement at the end of the show that this was done just for the awareness..... and if it was really a re-enactment why isn't the channel saying anything... what was the thousand apology for???

This topic, in my point of view can easily be dragged to a long debate but I ll try to keep my comments as brief as possible.
For all the people slightly supporting even the intentions of Maya Khan, I have only one question for all of you, WHO has given you the right to check or stop someone from meeting in a public place when NO indecent activity has been observed. Being a media anchor or even the police DOES NOT give you the right to challenge the right of freedom of movement and the freedom to socialize within the country or even abroad.
Instead of firing the anchor and letting her escape the legal proceedings against her invasion of privacy and harassment of fellow citizens of Pakistan she along with the TV channel airing the said program MUST be dragged to the courts. The anchor person (Maya Khan) Along with the complete Samaa TV administration is responsible for this embaresment.
As for all those readers (men and women both) trying to dictate the dos and donts for the feminine gender in society, please with all due respect, you have the freedom to have your views and beliefs just like everyone else, but saying that women need to be in hijab or burqa when going out or they have to follow some kind of code... forget it. You CAN NOT force anyone to change till the time you YOURSELF dont have the strength to control you eyes and thoughts. If YOU dont like people datting, DONT date, its as easy as that. I have been watching maya khan show since few months, and i liked it. She was entertaining, and had a good personality. Most of her shows i have enjoyed, as she has raised good issues about the bad things happening in our society. It was a fun morning show. and enjoyed some of the real issues facing different classes of society.
However, I agree that people who didn't want their faces shown on camera should have been respected. She is a great host/personality IMO. She did apologize on one of her shows.
Why people forget about their end and finally every one has to answerable for thier action deeds and if govt couldn't stop these unethical behavior in society then people like Maya khan is doing their best job .Please don't make it unethical free society.

I think from one side it was too bad what Maya Khan done...there was other ways how to deal with these issues...she not supposed to go there and start action herself... i have been to those parks with my family and we never gone back there because it is too discusting to see couples hiding behind bushes and touching, massaging each other...we are going there with small kids and all this we are showing to our kids... action has to be taken by goverment or police sources to control this...parks are for everyone not just for couples...in public places it is too bad what we are seeing there...
for everyone who thinks this is not enough....trust me ONE DAY OFF THE AIR is a lifetime punishment for these addicted-to-screen-presence hosts :)

This decision to fire Maya Khan was not right. These are the people who work for the society to build good moral values. We all should appreciate Maya Khan and should discourge youth to make such relations and precious time should be utilize for the studies. I fully disagree this decision and this very unfortunate that our values are being destroyed and good peoples are targeted. Shame on us and the managemnt who took this decision.
Appreciate move by Samaa TV, this is unacceptable, such a sheer infringment on personal freedom and private life, Media has no right to interven into peoples personal life, the couples dating in parks do not hold on pubic offices, they are not accountable to media.
I saw one episode on youtube, Maya was literally running after two young people, it angered me, who is she, for that matter, what business tv channels, have with our private lives.

Its good that she has been fired, and the channel has said sorry, for what its worth. I still think we need an explanation from SAMAA TV as to how this show was even allowed to air in the first place. Samma TV needs to tighten its control over what it airs.
I learned about the hype on face book. Not aware of the show or circumstances that led to Mayas termination. Social taboo aka Dating collided with open media. There was no balance and no protection for the ones exposed. In a country where honor killing is common. Ms Khan should pursue other means to prove her point, if she is serious about morals of society. Exposing general public against their will is not appreciated any where. Samaa TV advocates/ legal team should have analyzed the risk and consequence before launchuning this project.

This should have been done immediately but I get that these guys had to try to do damage control but obviously Maya is a no brainer when it comes to journalism and business (what an attention wh*re). I think this should be taken one step ahead and Samaa should put the managers back on probation who supposedly gave the approval on Maya and her production team's idea of exposing private matters of citizens without their consent. This is totally wrong that Maya was fired, this is a defeat to all those who is against injustice. She took a brave step to expose those who are spreading profanity and sex. I bet there was a pressure from top govt poiticians to fired her because their children are also involved in these park kind of activities. I believe that what Maya has done was right and necessary irrespective of the way she adopted as what was happening (Dating) in the park was completely wrong in the eyes of Islam. This evil and menace has spread extremely speedily in our society and creating too many problems especially for teenagers.
In an Islamic country (although by name), no date point is is allowed and unfortunately in our country especially this is becoming so common that some of the parks (pubclic places) have been labelled as date point (if I am not wrong)

Great News! She should also be dragged to the court for her invasion of peoples' privacy. All media personnel crossing lines to raise their show ratings should be fired and tried at the same time!

Everyone has a right to privacy, what is un-ethical and immoral is a decision of Legislation and other higher authorities. There is no law in the country which is prohibiting or ristricting an unmarried couple to sit in public places, even policemen intrude such couples and irritate them and threat them inorder to take BRIBE, which should also be condemn. Its a very good move by Samaa Tv, in addition a petition should have been filed against Maya Khan for intruding and probing innocent people for no reason but for unnecessary publicity of the TV show.

Totally injustice with Maya. Shame on those who behaved Maya in such third rated way. She highlighted only, that Parents and family should know about young ladies whereabouts.Young girls are killed & raped on daily basis due to these "secret" datings. Media in EU and US have taken a lot of time to mature however given the opportunity of freedom to speech, it takes a lot of responsibility to deliver to the people across the country and the rest of the world, the truth but in the most appropriate manner with finesse. Unfortunately, during my short stay in Pakistan, I observed that Pakistan's media requires a lot of maturity especially the way country's image is being projected to the entire world. Loving and warm people with beautiful places to visit giving a foreigner the very taste of scenic drives through the terrains, I am grieved to hear or see such incidents. Having said that, it's media's utmost responsibility to project a positive image of the country and encouraging foreigners to visit this country and depicting a good image of the most talented people of Pakistan. Terminating such irresponsible anchors and their crew would most certainly set a good example who grab their cameras and microphones to invade the privacy of others by crossing the moral boundaries in the name of piousness and justice.

Nothing but just media hype. She will be back on the same channel in 10 days time. Remember the Bolta Pakistan episode where the anchor was fired from the channel and after 3 days he was back on the channel.
I have not seen that specific video but whatever I have heard about or noticed on several TV talk shows about that event.Maya Khan did a fantastic job.She should be appreciated but in Pakistan every thing occurs in the opposite direction.Sorry to say about our country,One who should go to jail gets the reward,and one who should get the reward,is fired(like Maya khan)or sent to jail.As far as I think CEO Sama TV did the worst job in his career. Miss Maya i have never seen your show but I read about your episode about raiding a public park, I was very surprised and all I have to say is that was very wrong.

The issue raised was a very genuine issue. Dating shall not be supported at all. Maya's way to address the issue was wrong, she should have engaged some senior citizens, politicians & religious personalities to develop consensus before taking the matter in her hands or she could leave the decision in viewers hand as most of the talk shows & morning shows do.
On the other side, I am painfully surprised how many people are supporting Dating & calling it interference in personal!!! you are sitting in a public place, a Park to be particular.. is it a private place?? Wish the supporters understand the out come of such a lousy act. This is not interference in privacy but promoting illegal relationship building. Today we are supporting open dating, tomorrow we will support adultery, then unmarried couples, then illegal child birth & this will go on & on and Pakistan will become a society with almost Zero ethical values. I can't see how Maya Khan was doing anything wrong, she has a freedom to do whatever shows she likes.The only problem is the way she has done it.She went too far, attempting to talk to other couples while shooting with camera despite they clearly not cooperating.The problem is not of the show, but the way it was manifested. In fact i think it was a wise idea, showing where our society is going. It was a public place, she could make movies, talk to other people but only if they are cooperating.If they say No, it means clear no and their privacy should be respected. Otherwise its a serious criminal offense, and an FIR should be filed against her.However I believe the idea of catching couples was intriguing if done in the right way.

I personally want to thank the higher Management of Sama TV headed by Zafar Siddiqi for firing Maya Khan along with the production team.This step truely reflects that sanity prevails amongst the top management of Sama Tv and the justice has been served to those whose privacy was violated by a senseless Moral Brigade headed by Maya Khan.
I find it strange that the networks management has been so easily 'let off the hook'. Firing the anchor is typical of our hypocritical attitudes of 'killing the messenger' instead of objectively and honestly looking at the core issues which gave and will always give rise to such acts.
What are these core issues? To start with how about management adopting a code of ethics which governs its content; (since we cannot reasonably expect such trivial matters to rouse PEMRA officials from their moronic slumber), screening content to ensure compliance before screening, and more importantly accepting full and unambiguous responsibility for airing this program.
While the anchor should have been fired before she was even hired, I believe that management should accept its part in the tragedy, as doing anything else would tantamount to a dereliction of their moral and corporate responsibility.
And while I was at it, I would also ask for the heads of Senior Management, served to me on a silver plate.

While I'm delighted that the lady won't be hounding any more couples on Samaa TV, the fault is not hers alone; every show has producers, who surely would have known about the policing act, so her superiors must also be held accountable. Samaa TV management is equally( rather more) responsible for airing the content and owe an apology. Putting all the blame on the host is not justified, channel is responsible too.
She should have been dragged to the court for her act as this was against the Rights of private and family life.. She used the right of Freedom of expression in a very wrong way. Indeed the whole media group should take into consideration right of privacy and thus work for the public interest. If I was among those people, I would have definitely sue her and her team and offcourse the channel as well. Those people can take her to court and ask for compensation.

We have to get our act together! On one hand we call our country "ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF PAKISTAN" and Islam being our religion while want to live our lives as liberals. The two can't blend together, lets make a choice and then set our ways of life. Maya, I am proud of your blunt reporting to bring this hush up matter to our homes. The parents send their kids to college to gain education and not for dating. I guess our education system is also to blame because government institutions have very low tuition fee. The parents pay, so kids don't care. The students in US take "student loans"; work on campus etc. and know the value of time and money because the loans have to be repaid after graduation. Therefore constant pressure to preform and become productive members of society. YES they party and date but all this is acceptable in their society.

I'm not happy about it ending this way, but it had to be done. It's great to see so many people recognizing the importance of privacy, and taking a strong stand against such hideously moral policing.
@drmansoor: samaa TV should also be held accountable for airing the show, they r pretending that the show was aired without their knowledge, BAN SAMMA too
That lady was interfering in other people's personal matters. The couples seen on the screen were looking mature enough to make their own decisions.

Firing Maya Khan and cancelling the show is not enough .Maya Khan and Sama Tv should be sued for the invasion of privacy .
