LONDON: Mercedes GP remain confident that they have made the right decision in opting to delay running of their new car until the second pre-season F1 test, according to the team’s vice-president of motorsport Norbert Haug.

While their main rivals have opted to bring their cars out for the opening test in Jerez, Mercedes have stuck to their original plan announced last year to test their car in the second run at Barcelona. “If you have half-a-year’s timeframe to develop a car, then 10 days can be crucial,” said Haug. “We want to test the proper car, finalised in each and every detail. But we are not delayed — we are just following our plan.”
