Thalassaemia: Students say yes to mandatory test

An awareness camp was organised by the Omair Sana Foundation.

KARACHI: More than 5,000 students from various education institutes along with others participated in a signing ceremony for a mandatory thalassaemia test before marriage, at the Nature Carnival 2012. An awareness camp was organised by the Omair Sana Foundation at the nature preservation themed carnival by the World Wide Fund. The signatories said that there is a lack of knowledge about this disease and the government should play an active role in providing information. A voluntary blood donation camp was also set up. Dr Rahat Hussain, the coordinator of the blood camp, counseled on the advantages and need for blood donation and explained the disease and its preventive measures. Press release
