ISLAMABAD:

As the lack of coordination between Ministry of Water and Power and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources contributes more towards worsening the energy crisis instead of solving it, an energy think tank, the Pakistan Energy Research and Information Centre (PERIC) has been proposed to resolve the issue.

The proposal came under discussion in a workshop on Pakistan Integrated Energy Model held at the Planning Commission Auditorium on Tuesday. The workshop was chaired by Dr Nadeem Ul Haque Deputy Chairman Planning Commission.

The participants of the workshop included key players from the energy sector, both from the public and private sector.

The workshop was held in the light of the on-going energy crisis that is being worsened by the lack of integrated planning. It was also highlighted in the workshop that lack of coordination between two energy ministries including the ministry of water and power and the ministry of petroleum was contributing more towards energy crisis.

Deputy Chairman Dr Nadeem Ul Haque supported the concept of PERIC, “I fully support the vision to setup PERIC as a reputable centre of excellence for energy which is self-financed and financially sustainable.”

Haque said that PERIC would create the enabling environment for development and dissemination of integrated energy sector analysis and studies for sustainable solutions.
