Speaking at the Aabpara Community Center Islamabad, Malik said that rescue teams had been at it since Thursday morning. “It was almost impossible to find it on Thursday due to unfavourable weather conditions.”
Defending the government’s rescue operation, Malik said that the authorities were faced by one of the worst ever airline incidents in Pakistan’s history. “It was a complete and successful rescue operation. All departments are working to extract crucial information that will help determine the cause of the crash,” he said.
However, clearing his position, he said that investigating the crash was not within the ambit of the interior ministry and that they had volunteered to assist in the probe only because the plane had crashed within the jurisdiction of Islamabad. “The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Ministry of Defence are conducting a probe.”
