PESHAWAR: The government of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) has launched a ‘Fata Child Protection Policy’ to protect tribal children against all forms of violence, abuse, discrimination, neglect and exploitation.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Barrister Masood Kausar after launching the ambitious policy on January 10, 2012, has announced its immediate enforcement. The Social Welfare Department of Fata will establish a social welfare complex in all tribal agencies for welfare of children.  Five child protection centres in Safi tehsil of Mohmand Agency have already been established in 2010. The government will focus on awareness of masses for children protection besides provision of shelters for disowned, kidnapped and orphan children and rehabilitation services for victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. The Fata Secretariat will make extensive efforts for enhancing coordination between the agency administration and Nadra for achieving universal child birth registration under a pilot programme in Fata.
