Snooker: Aamir crowned champion at junior event

Aamir lost the opening frame 70-27 but hit back in the second 78-30 and knocked off the next three.

Hunain Aamir, 16, clinched the 2012 Jubilee Insurance Pakistan Junior Under-21 Snooker Championship, defeating Faisalabad’s Muhammad Majid 5-2 in the final to be crowned the tournament’s youngest champion.


Aamir lost the opening frame 70-27 but hit back in the second 78-30 and knocked off the next three 56-55, 83-44, 78-28 for a 4-1 lead. Majid won the sixth frame 71-34 but Aamir claimed the seventh 67-57 to seal his win. “I want to be like England’s Ronnie ‘O’ Sullivan and represent Pakistan in the world championship,” said Aamir. “I’ve grown up watching players at my father’s club and want to become a professional cueist.”
