SUKKUR:

The Ghotki police arrested four men and a woman in door-to-door raid carried out in the kutcha villages of the Khanpur Mahar for being involved in the kidnapping of two managers of private banks.

The bankers, identified as  Iqbal Shaikh and Raees Khan, had been kidnapped from between Pannu Aqil and Ghotki on January 9, 2012, when they were coming to work.

Their car had been found abandoned near the vegetable market of Ghotki.

A heavy contingent of police cordoned off Faiz Mohammad Chang, Shah Murad Chang, Sarwar Chang and other villages on Sunday.

Basit Chang and Fatima Chang were arrested with three others.

On the other hand, the villagers claimed that the police ransacked their houses, misbehaved with the villagers and arrested innocent people.

“The police is blaming us for harbouring a criminal, Sarwar, alias Saroo Chang,” they said. “We are poor people and have nothing to do with the criminals or crimes.”

DSP Ayaz denied ransacking the houses and making any arrests.

The police officer confirmed that the police were raiding the villages to recover the two kidnapped bank managers.

He was hopeful that the abductors will be arrested soon.
