Cricket fever catches up with Firdous Ashiq Awan

LAHORE: Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan let go of her walking stick on Sunday, only to pick up a cricket bat.

Awan, who was injured in a car accident in December last year, took to the pitch as she inaugurated the Benazir Bhutto Women's Cricket Tournament in Lahore.

But as she swung the bat to hit the first ball she ever faced in her life, she stumbled prompting her entourage to swiftly come to her aid and steady her. She then braced to face her second ball, which she also could not play.

By the third ball, however, Awan understood the ropes of the game and managed to hit the ball. Encouraged, she then asked for a fourth ball, which she also hit past the crease.

Awan, a media darling, has been in the news for many a personal stories. In November last year, she told Express 24/7 that she enjoys eating kaleji.

I hear you bro, deep down inside we are still idol worshipers, no offense but looks like it is still embedded in our DNA. If this is not human worship, then what else is????

Aftab | 12 years ago | Reply @ khan Yaar, if there were stats that said BB took X amount of people out of poverty and placed them in jobs, or created policies that led to strong FDI, strengthened the infrastructure of the country, initiated health reforms that saved X amount of lives, privatised state industries and made them profitable as a result, widened the tax net, removed the feudal system, empowered people at the grass roots level etc etc, then I'd say great, well done BUT I still wouldn't name every door, bridge, college or hospital after her! And now we're meant to say how great she is, and name everything after her? No thanks. Murree Road will remain Murree Road for me, and Islamabad Airport will be called Islamabad Airport.
