OTTAWA: South Korea became the last large Asian market to lift a ban on Canadian beef after it imposed restrictions on its import nine years ago following the 2003 mad cow disease outbreak. Starting Friday, Canadian beef which is under 30 months of age can now re-enter the South Korean market. The Canadian beef industry estimates that it will benefit by more than 30 million Canadian dollars by 2015 due to the restoration of trade. Last year, the Canadian trade minister had urged his South Korean counterpart to reconsider the ban on Canadian beef, pointing out that it was the only Asian country still restricting its import.
