Media reports suggest that the car Prime Minister Gilani used to go to the court for his contempt of court hearing was bearing a fake number plate. The number plate on his car was LRZ-786, surprisingly the same as the number plate of Muhammad Riaz Ahsan’s car, who is a Lahore resident.
The Prime Minister House, after the emergence of the news, claims that the number plate was deliberately changed due to security concerns.
The Supreme Court had initiated contempt of court proceedings against Gilani, exasperated by the government’s refusal to write to the Swiss asking them to re-open graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari, ordering the premier to appear before the court personally.
Gilani agreed to appear before the court amid tight security with his counsel Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan and other eminent Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders.

No one can use a duplicate number plate unless it is authorized by the concerned department and prior approval is sought to use such a number plate.
Nonetheless, the person appeared in the Supreme Court was not fake, he was the real Prime Minister Gilani.

Using fake number plates is a common practice among politicians and influential people in Pakistan, who drive illegal cars who are smuggled into the country without paying any custom duty. Without the custom duty, this shinny SUV is dirty cheap, and with custom its price rockets to sky.
so what? maybe you should be reporting about the fact that a democratically elected PM was summoned by the SC and had no problem appearing before it, unlike say, the last 'leader', who fired the entire superior judiciary and had them put under arrest on top of it. This isnt news, security is a genuine concern in case of future use which this car obviously will be. The stupid media just likes to flare up non-issues.
It's not only Gillani, all of these high ranking officials use fake number plates. They say it is for security reasons. ET should know this at the least.

So funny, PM has security concerns just because of his vehicle number plate. Islamabad was at stand still and traffic blocked on all connecting roads, still PM had security concerns. Thats pathetic.
yeah with all the guards running around that particular vehicle and all the waving going on, NOBODY could have guessed who was driving in which vehicle! some security!

Prime Minister and his lawyer Mr. Aitezaz Ahsen has committed very serious offences. Both of them should be charged for violating traffic rules, endagering life of citizens, committing fraud and exposing VVIP security measures.

If that is not contempt of law, then I don't know what is. At the same time, please also check if the vehicle is duty paid.
Is there any journalist in Pakistan who can get that information ? I am sure this can be quite a scandal. Imagine the headlines : "Pakistani PM driving smuggled vehicle" or "PM Gilani owns Landcruiser, doesn't know how it got in his driveway."

What a shame. I'm embarrassed to live in a country whose PM uses a fake number plate. I mean just think he is "Prime Minister". It happens only in Pakistan.
This is a non custom paid automobile in use for a long time. It is a common practice for the offenders to have various cars of similar,color, make and model with same number plate. I bet you that if there is an investigation Mr. G can have a serious problem but may be not he has been immunized by the constitution.
