ISLAMABAD:

An Islamabad court dismissed on Wednesday a petition seeking the arrest of Mansoor Ijaz.

The Islamabad District Court, in its verdict, said that being an American national, Ijaz could not be arrested by Pakistani authorities unless he violates any law in Pakistan.

Khalid Javed, a PPP activist, had filed a petition requesting the court to order the police to register an FIR against Ijaz.

However, SHO Hakim Ali Khan of the Secretariat police station stated before the court that the judicial commission probing the Memogate scandal had ordered not to register a case against Ijaz on his arrival.  The judge, in the short order, endorsed the verdict of the commission on the assurance given by the attorney general of Pakistan that the no case would be registered against Ijaz unless he breaches the law of the land after his arrival.
